Traditional Redefined
Traditions give a certain meaning to our lives – without them we would be constantly re-inventing the world around us.
I immediately think of embroidery when you say ‘traditional’. Hand-made, time consuming and utterly lovely for generations. At Linen Drawer we use a particular embroidery method to hemstitch our table linen for clients, adding beauty and traditional appeal.
This year we have taken the bold step to re-configure these traditional elements of design in our bed linen. By using traditional hemstitching on our 100% pure linen bedding range, we have embraced, yet re-set, this ageless embellishment on heirloom bed linen.
It still has the look of hand-made hemstitching, but our modern twist is to pare down the design. We have done away with the additional embroidery designs on this type of bed linen, and showcase only the hemstitching.
Instead of pristinely ironed pillowcases, sheets and duvet covers, we choose to wash the bed linen and then iron very lightly. This results in a textured, highly tactile look which twists and plays with the traditional aspect of hemstitched bed linen.
We believe that the the basic elements of luxurious pure linen and simple hemstitching embellishment are both modern, yet comfortingly evocative of past grand living.
The fun is in setting a new tradition based on the old!
